Black Men...all Men, We as African American Women, Have Now Seen the Light

Obama's Message:

Plea: BLACK MEN ...all men

Hope it is not too late

President Elect Barack Obama 's subliminal message was empowered with fortitude, obedience to God and for his love of his nation.  Not by the stroke of a pen but by his very actions before, during and after his election re remained the same person.

What he showed was that to believe is the first step of self growth.  His weapon was education was the second..  His third choice was honesty which he practiced " to be true to your word". "To give back" was his fifth.  And, last but not least, choosing a mate that matched his soul.

Seeming tireless, this man worked endlessly until his goal was achieved.  It was kinda like the slave forging towards the land of freedom despite the hazards of rain, snow, sleet, wind and hail.  The shortcuts, I presumed were  often times considered may have been blocked but he had no trouble turning  and trying another route to reach his destination.  He kept focus with his goal and forge ahead not hurting but helping those alone the way.

Here, a man who saw potential in our youth.  He ,believing and trusting in our  "future's" dedication and their willingness to learn, provided them teaching tools to succeed. He offered them no "pipe dreams".  He taught them what hard work would bring.  Success.   He took time to give kind words to praise them of their daily jobs. (Something others, like myself when politics were hectic, would have taken for granted) Not during his victory but all along the way he took time to listen, learn, share and care.

I , an African American Republican, sat in on first meeting listening to Michelle Obama.  I had titles galore and had major victories under my belt.  A system that I felt comfortable in because I had made it to "my" top.  I called senators by their first names. Three presidents, I had their direct telephone numbers to.  I could demand other elected officials audience and they would be there.  I was often commended on my job well done.  When I would attend community meeting or church gatherings I was called "Mrs. Republican".  I would wave my hand when my name was announced.  It always was.

The Obama meeting was a grassroots invite. I really came to find fault in a person of color trying to challenge our system. Subconsciously, I perhaps, felt that their winning would eliminate me from my power throne. To my surprise, never once did she gloat about what they had but what they were willing to give back to our country.  She made a plea that  in order to achieve this we must unite, share our knowledge and give back from where we came.

She asked for no commitments.  She just asked us to consider her request.  I was shocked,  no begging for money.? No passing of the basket?

So, I decided to try and continue to discredit her.  I went to various Obama Offices unannounced to try and catch a flaw. ( Like the "House Nigger", if I could find anything wrong I was running back to tell it.)  To my amazement I saw each time a power house of the United Nations working together.

I saw the young, the old, the rich and the poor.  I saw those educated and those not.  I saw people who were African Americans, Asians, Hispanic, Germans, Irish, Arabs, Africans and so forth.  All of them working together sharing information.  No one was any more important than the other.  No one complaining.  Everyone greeting you with a smile.  When, I did not say I would participate they still treated me with the same courtesy and remained friendly.  Nothing changed...it remained the same. These volunteers remained focus and dedicated in what they believed in.

It was not the notoriety of people who came and traveled to give support that impressed me.  It was the organization itself.  I had been there, done that and have the "tee" shirt and cap to wear.  But, this was something new.

The unity and consistency and the repetitive working with no one complaining and gossiping.  The turn downs did not stop these  workers bees.  I began to think "hey, I had better get on this train before it is too late."

You may ask what does all the former essay has to do with our Black Men or men in general?  It is very short and to the point.  By observation I must  once again get on the train before it too late and share this new bit of information.

Black Men...all men  we as African American Women, have now seen the light.  We have seen what Michelle Obama has chosen for a mate.  We are now allowed a second chance to regroup to look our "Obama's" out there.

Michelle Obama has found a man that she respects. I am for sure, she did not look at the color of his skin but the content of his character.   A man who is hard working.  A man who may not know how to really dance (saw him on one of the talk shows) but can groove in his own way.  A man who speaks the truth.  A man who has no shame in calling his wife his "rock".  A man who will show the world that his loves his woman.  A man who has the desire to stay with one woman and remain faithful. Last but not least he has a special bond with his children. You can see the glow in their eyes when he is around.

Our Plea:

Men do not move away from us. Men you are not required to wear the bling bling or blam blam.  Men we called nerds are nerds no longer.  Men with potential but are not making as much as we are is no longer a problem.  The men who may not say the right thing at the right time is no longer the reason for rejection.  Men who want to be with us can keep on wearing double knits or double thick glasses or glasses at “tall” is all right.  Last but not least, men who have a dream, we are willing to work along you side.

Like my momma always said and now I understand, “if you mess with trash it will get in your eye.” We as sisters are no longer digging in the bottom of the barrel.
